Modern Bride Editor in Chief Antonia Van Der Meer believes that a bride should find a dress that reflects her personality. Van der Meer’s advice for brides is to try on more dresses than you think need to; often, a bride comes in dreaming of one look, and walking out with a totally different dress.

If you are soon to be wed, keep in mind that dresses no longer are strictly white or really large, brides are choosing dresses that are very traditional to ultra modern. Below are a list of the five biggest trends this year.

Trend No.1: Lace

Lace has made a big comeback in both subtle ways and all_over fabric. Today's lace bridal gowns exude a vintage romance that makes a bride feel feminine, yet not overdone. This gown has a bustle back with a chapel train. The scalloped lace detail finishes the hem. A bride who envisions walking down a white fabric aisle in a lush green garden will be enchanted by this wedding dress.

In an effort to brand their wedding, their way, today's brides are finding inventive ways to incorporate color into the bridal gown and accessories - whether all-over or as an accent. The blue in this dress is soft and sophisticated and the trim on the bodice gives way to a gathered train, producing a waterfall of fabric. This bride may want to go a step further with her blue accent and make it everywhere from the centerpieces and linens to the cake.
