5 Trends
Modern Bride Editor in Chief Antonia Van Der Meer believes that a bride should find a dress that reflects her personality. Van der Meer’s advice for brides is to try on more dresses than you think need to; often, a bride comes in dreaming of one look, and walking out with a totally different dress.
If you are soon to be wed, keep in mind that dresses no longer are strictly white or really large, brides are choosing dresses that are very traditional to ultra modern. Below are a list of the five biggest trends this year.
Trend No.1: Lace
Designer: Liancarlo
Lace has made a big comeback in both subtle ways and all_over fabric. Today's lace bridal gowns exude a vintage romance that makes a bride feel feminine, yet not overdone. This gown has a bustle back with a chapel train. The scalloped lace detail finishes the hem. A bride who envisions walking down a white fabric aisle in a lush green garden will be enchanted by this wedding dress.
Trend No.2: Opulent Embroidery
Designer: Reem Acra
Glamour girls will delight in the careful hand_embroidered detail of this satin ball gown. The pearls and delicate designs can be repeated in surprising ways throughout the wedding _ whether with hair jewelry or skillful patterns on the wedding cake. The silver thread against the full, white fabric establishes an opulent style that warrants grand chandeliers, candlelight and an aisle of red roses.
Trend No.3: Destination
Designer: Amarilidine
Destination wedding no longer means "short slip dress." Bridal gowns with skilled handwork, rich fabrics and playful designs are making their way on to planes for far_away romance. This strapless gown with silk crepe bodice, organza skirt and frayed detail is playful enough for barefoot on the beach _ yet stands up to the most stylish seaside soiree.
Trend No.4: Ultra-Feminine
Designer: Monique Lhuillier
What do feminine brides love? Ribbons, ruffles, flowers, sashes and bows! Feminine details are making a big impact. This lace bodice takes femininity to a new level, with a plunging front and drop-waist. The tulle skirt brings out the hidden ballerina in her and the sage satin bow accented with a brooch tops off this sweet chic look. Whether floating along the cobblestones of a historic mansion or descending the staircase of an old hotel, this dress is angelic.
Trend No.5: Color
Designer: Justina McCaffrey
Gwen Stefani did it, so can every-day brides. That is, use the wedding dress to bring out one's colorful personality. In an effort to brand their wedding, their way, today's brides are finding inventive ways to incorporate color into the bridal gown and accessories - whether all-over or as an accent. The blue in this dress is soft and sophisticated and the trim on the bodice gives way to a gathered train, producing a waterfall of fabric. This bride may want to go a step further with her blue accent and make it everywhere from the centerpieces and linens to the cake.
